HACCP Codex Alimentarius

HACCP CODEX Alimentarius is the HACCP system within the CODEX standards framework. The International Food Standards Commission (CODEX) consistently recommends that food manufacturing and processing enterprises adopt the HACCP system.

The organization introduced HACCP into its standards under reference number CAC/RCP 1-1969, Rev.4-2003. HACCP is also referenced in the Vietnamese national standard TCVN 5603:2008 – Code of Practice on General Principles of Food Hygiene.

In Vietnam, the food safety system largely draws upon standards established by CODEX. In 2006, the Prime Minister approved a national action plan for food safety and hygiene, setting a target for 80% of Vietnam’s safety regulations to meet global standards by 2010.

This also means that Vietnam’s regulations must be based on CODEX standards. In 2016, the Ministry of Health reported that the country had achieved 65% compliance with CODEX standards. Safety regulations that have yet to meet global CODEX standards remain the responsibility of the Food Safety Administration under the Ministry of Health.
